At The Movies~ Matt Helm double feature

The character of Matt Helm appeared in 27 books over a 33-year period beginning in 1960 and established Helm as one of the most tough-minded, pragmatic, and competent of all fictional agents, whatever their roles. Donald Hamilton was the author, and his Helm was much more an assassin than a secret agent. The books very violent, even by today's standards.

Not so the films, which wich are more camp than serious. What else can you expect with Dean Martin in the lead? He is sauve, witty but not "dangerous".

Martin made 4 outings in the role, and here are the first and last of them.

The Silencers was released in 1966. Elmer Bernstein provided the score, with Vikki Carr singing the title song and "Santiago." Two soundtrack albums were released — Bernstein's original score on an RCA Victor album that does not feature any artwork of Dean Martin, and a Reprise album by Martin singing several songs that were featured in the film, along with some instrumentals by the Mike Leander Orchestra.

Co stars were in abundance: Stella Stevens, Victor Buono,Daliah Lavi,James Gregory, Robert Webber, Nancy Kovack, Arthur O'Connell, Roger C. Carmel and Cyd Charisse .

1968's The Wrecking Crew was Dino's last romp as Helm, althouh he was offered a 5th film. Elke Sommer, Sharon Tate, TIna Louise, and Nancy Kwan are the delectible co-stars.Bruce Lee choreographed the fight scenes. Chuck Norris has a small uncredited role.
