A hep cast that also includes Dean Martin

Hey pallies, likes today's Dino-gram accents one of those lesser known and hard to find copies of Dino-flick, "Career," from 1959.   From the new-to-ilovedinomartin blog, "Click Americana - Memories & Memorabilia," comes a very very brief review of this Dino-drama that has  yet to be released on DVD.  Likes at one point it did get a release on VHS and copies of that are floatin' 'round the web.

While we have never ever seen this lesser known big screen Dino-effort, we are oh so eager to some day be able to do so.  The combination of our most beloved Dino, Miss Shirley MacLaine, and Anthony Franciosa is just so so special.......and certainly whenever our great great man goes before the cameras magic simply has to appear.

ilovedinomartin salutes the pallies at "Click Americana - Memories & Memorabilia" for remindin' all us Dino-holics of 'nother of our Dino's fabulous flicks, and perhaps, just perhaps, this is a sign of thin's to come....with the hoped for release of "Career" on DVD.  To checks this out in it's original format, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-report.  Dino-desirin', DMP

Movie review: Career, with Dean Martin & Shirley MacLaine (1959)

The reel dope: ”Career”

“Was it worth it?” theatrical-agent Carolyn Jones asks actor Anthony Franciosa, who has struggled to make good through this entire film and finally, as the curtain falls, moves from a small off-Broadway playhouse to the sought-after goal of the Great White Way.
“Yes!” he replies. “Yes, it was worth it.”
This Franciosa, otherwise Sam Lawson, is certainly a glutton for punishment. But if you doubt his story, peel your eyes next time you’re around Times Square’s Shubert Alley; you’ll see many Sam Lawsons.
A hep cast that also includes Dean Martin, a director; Shirley MacLaine, his wacky girlfriend; and Joan Blackman, Franciosa’s first wife, helps make it all absorbingly realistic. (Hal B Wallis; Paramount)

A DRIVER had a lucky escape when two bricks were thrown off a Monash Freeway overpass and hit his windscreen.
Nick, 38, from South Morang, said one of the bricks shattered his Mercedes van window and the other landed on his lap.
Police are investigating the frightening incident, which happened between 7.30 and 7.45pm on Tuesday.
"I was just driving along, just casually, enjoying the nice weather and listening to a bit of Dean Martin, and the next thing I know I've got a brick on my lap," Nick told 3AW.
"Thankfully it happened to me because I was driving a van so it hit low down on the windscreen.
"If it was a car it would have hit higher up on the screen and caused a lot more damage - thankfully there were no kids or anything involved."
Nick did not see who threw the bricks and described the noise of the brick hitting his windscreen as an "explosion."
"I didn't see anything, I was just driving along and the next minute, like an explosion, and then I had a brick on my lap," he said.
It happened on a footbridge close to East Malvern train station and Ivanhoe Grove as the van travelled city-bound.
Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with information, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Dino-amorin'

Hey pallies, likes this has certainly been a stellar week so far for sharin' some outstandin' Dino-devotion with our ilovedinomartin pallies.   From Sweden to St. Louis, from Palm Springs to a number of movie sets that our Dino was filmin' on, we have been thrilled to shares with you deep deep devotion to our Dino from a variety of cool cool sources.

Today's Dino-devotion is more of the brief sort, a couple of Dino-poses and a vid clip of a classic Dino-croon, but 'gain dudes it's a respectful reminder that it is not always necessary to have a spectacularly splashy  post every day ('though we certainly loves sharin' 'em with ya) for it to be full of heart-felt Dino-adulation.

Likes today we takes all youse Dino-philes to what we woulda guess is one of, if not THE most provocatively tagged blogs, "wewantsexualfreedom.com" where a pallie tagged Mark has shared what we here at ilovedinomartin consider one of the most most evocative poses from the Dino-show of our Dino with Miss Petula Clark.  Our great great man and Miss Clark are lookin' so so cozy together and obviously extremely enjoyin' each other's company as they perform together...truly truly the most lovin' of couples.

How Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin crooned for Stan Musial

Imagine a gathering of 1960s icons that included Stan Musial, Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
musial_friarsWhen a recent Twitter post by Just Baseball Photos @Baseball_Photos displayed a picture of those athletes and entertainers together at a 1964 Friars Club roast, I wanted to research it and share what I learned in this blog post.
The black-and-white photo, reproduced here, shows (from left to right) Dodgers publicist Danny Goodman, Musial, Mays, Sinatra, Koufax and Martin (the latter in a classic pose, with cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other).
They were among a bevy of baseball and entertainment celebrities gathered at the Friars Club in Beverly Hills on Nov. 10, 1964, for a testimonial dinner in honor of Musial, the Cardinals standout who had retired as a player a year earlier. Less than a month before the gala, the Cardinals, with Musial in the front office as an executive, had clinched the 1964 World Series championship against the Yankees.
The Friars Club, founded in 1904 in New York City, primarily attracted comedians and entertainers as its members and became best known for its bawdy celebrity roasts. A Beverly Hills branch of the club opened in 1947.
The dinner for Musial attracted a stellar group from the baseball and entertainment worlds.
Among the baseball celebrities joining Koufax and Mays in honoring Musial were Don Drysdale, Leo Durocher, Bob Feller, Hank Greenberg, Vin Scully and Duke Snider.
Sinatra and Martin were joined by personalities such as Gene Autry, Milton Berle, Arthur Godfrey and master of ceremonies George Jessel.
Following the standard Friars Club format, several of the entertainers took turns on the dais poking fun at the honored guest.
(An example of the cutting humor was this line from Godfrey about Musial’s restaurant in St. Louis: “After eating there, I can understand why Stan came all the way to Los Angeles for a meal.”)
The highlight of the evening came when Sinatra and Martin “ran through a half-dozen song parodies filled with jabs at Musial,” The Sporting News reported. The Rat Pack duo’s special lyrics to popular tunes were so risqué that none “is in danger of ever being published,” wrote Sporting News correspondent Bob Hunter.
Sinatra and Martin ended on a high note with a duet to the tune of the song “The Lady is a Tramp.” Changing the lyrics to salute Stan the Man, Sinatra and Martin made the signature line, “Mr. Musial, you’re a champ.”
The Sporting News observed, “Musial received several standing ovations, the final one lasting for a lengthy period after he had responded to the barbs and roasts with a witty, humble speech of thanks.”
In opening his remarks, Musial said to the celebrity club members, “It’s been a great evening and it’s great to be with such famous and good friends _ even if they don’t know a darn thing about baseball.”

Dean Martin Sings About Palm Springs

Back in 1958, former Palm Springs resident, Dean Martin recorded this promotional 45 record, which was never commercially released. I just stumbled upon it on Youtube the other day.
The title of the single is “It’s 1,200 Miles From Palm Springs to Texas.” The song was used to promote the Palm Springs “Desert Circus,” which began in 1937. It was an annual week-long event in April, with a different theme each year. In 1958, the theme was “Texas.”
A number of well known songs have been written and recorded here, by some of the biggest entertainers on the planet, but this is the first song I’ve ever heard about Palm Springs. It’s a start, but I’m still waiting for our “New York, New York,” “Chicago,” or “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” sized hit song. What do you think, Barry Manilow?

Just wishes that we had all the time in the world to discover it all! Today we return to the beau-ti-ful self-tagged blog of Mr. Scott Rollins, "The Scott Rollins Film and TV Trivia Blog," for 'nother dynamic dose of Dino-devotion from Scotty.

Regular readers will remember that 'bout the middle of Dino-winter-month we shared an early Dino-present from Rollins accentin' the fact that Mr. Irving Allen, producer of the Matt Helm capers, had left the planet. Scotty put together an superb spot of prose and pixs a la Matt Helm that was totally totally Dino-hononrin.

Well, as we so often do at ilovedinomartin, we simply did a bit of Dino-diggin' at Scotty's pad to see if Rollins had shared more Dino-communicado with his readership.  And, likes indeed Scotty had created a Dino-honorin' post on our Dino's birthday remembrance in 2013 (which, unfortunately had gone unnoticed on our part at the time).

"..... but Dean Martin is in many ways an even better ideal image to strive for, as I see it."

Hey pallies likes all youse Dino-philes knows , we here at our humble little Dino-home likes 'specially loves puttin' the accent on Dino-devotion a la internationale likes 'cause it is just so so refreshin' to find pallies all 'round the globe who just can't ever ever gets 'nough of our most beloved Dino.  Today ilovedinomartin blazes new Dino-territory with a post from Sweden....likes don't thinks we have ever ever before shared Dino-passion from there 'though we know that there musta be likes tons of Dino-devotees in the "Land of the Midnight Sun."

Today we vist with the blog, "upphopp," which translates into English as "mounting behavior."  That's where our newest pallie Mr. Olof  Röhlander hangs his hat.   Accordin' to his bio, Röhlander is a "licensed mental trainer, certified coach and has background as an elite player in tennis.  He has worked as a mental coach for the Swedist Table Tennis National Team and Örgryte Football but works since several years back as an inpiration and a lecturer of approximately 200 corporate events and conferences each year"

And, likes who is inspirational speaker Mr. Röhlander's  inspiration?  Likes you gots it pallies....none other then our inspirin' Dino.  The tag of his blog post likes  sez it all dudes....."Therefore, Dean Martin, one of my role models."  And likes as far as we are concerned Olof is absolutely positively right on the Dino-mark!!!!!

Likes we totally totally digs this particular phrase from his Dino-prose, and likes, of course, it is how we decided to tag this post.  Röhlander proudly and boldly sez, "Those of you who know me know that I dig Sinatra, but Dean Martin is in many ways an even better ideal image to strive for, as I see it.  And, likes we here at ilovedinomartin coulda 'gree more with Olof's Dino-proclamation!!!!

Also likes we totally digs that Röhlander  began his Dino-devotion back in middle school, truly a true true  turnin' point for all youth startin' to make important decisions 'bout the path they are goin' to follow in life and very very coolly Olof states, "I started listening to Dean Martin back in middle school.   His voice, charisma and laid back attitude to life made me even then that will love life."  Can't get a much more powerful testimony then that 'bout the immeasurable influence that our most beloved Dino has had on this dude's life!

This painting of The Rat Pack sitting up in our kitchen. Had I had the opportunity I would liked to have had the original, so much does it for me.

Those of you who know me know that I dig Sinatra, but Dean Martin is in many ways an even better ideal image to strive for, as I see it. Sure, he had weaknesses that were less admirable, but he had that profession to have fun  - and it was noticeable. Desire and pleasure as starting points for their work, it's brilliant! I try to have it too, but Dean took it to a whole other level.

When Frank Sinatra at one point been nervous before a show Dean had whispered to her friend next door: Why is Frank so nervous, it's just a song!

I started listening to Dean Martin back in middle school. His voice, charisma and laid back attitude to life made me even then that will love life!
